History

1952 Supervisory board of company Eisenwerk-Gesellschaft Maximilianshütte mbH (Maxhütte), part of the Friedrich-Flick Group, decides to construct a tube mill.
1954 “One of the most modern plants of its kind on the continent” starts production of seamless steel tubes using the Erhardt push bench process.
1959 World record: The first 16-meter seamless tube made on a push bench is produced.
1972 First successful production of ball bearing tubes using the push bench process and subsequent forming in a stretch reducing mill. Following this, ball bearing production is launched based on this technology and subsequent further processing using cold pilger rolling mills.
1980 Installation of a state-of-the art annealing furnace for carbonizing soft annealing of tubes.
1990 New beginning as the Rohrwerk Neue Maxhütte GmbH.

Extensive investments in a 28-stand stretch reducing mill, in a fully automatic tube finishing system, and in state-ofthe-art ultrasonic testing equipment.
2000 Acquisition by ARI Baustahl GmbH.
2001 Adoption of a comprehensive modernization program. Launch of an in-plant training program.
2002 Modern inspection/test laboratory is commissioned for metallurgical material testing.
2003 Company becomes legally independent: Rohrwerk Maxhütte GmbH. Environmental division is restructured. Department “Safety and Environment” is created.

Continuous modernization for the purpose of expanding production capacity and enhancing quality improvement.
2010 Commissioning of third cold pilgering machine. Expansion of product line of cold-finished tubes.
